The Afghan Mentorship Alliance (AMA)

A partnership between UCLA's United Afghan Club and the local community to empower the next generation.

Who We Are:
Founded by Malalai Anbari (Alum ’09) and Ahmad Bahrami (Alum ’09), the United Afghan Club’s educational outreach program is directed specifically for Afghan-American youth in the San Fernando Valley, as well as youth from other underrepresented backgrounds.

Our Purpose:
We seek to empower the students culturally and motivate them to pursue goals in higher education. Our ultimate goal is to no longer exist. Our intention is to help the youth develop skills and fid opportunities to such an extent that our presence will no longer be needed in the area.

AMA Activities
Every two weeks, AMA mentors alternate between the Resalat Foundation and the Fatima Society. These two mentorship sites work closely with the club to develop suitable curriculum and provide a safe space for children and mentors to interact. The students are assigned to a mentor who acts as an advisor, friend, and most importantly as a role model. Students receive homework help, encouragement to pursue a higher education degree, and guidance on career paths. We provide academic support, personal tutoring, and one-on-one mentoring about problems students face as Afghan-Americans.
